Orvillecopter For Cat

Seorang seniman Belanda bernama Bart Jansen memperlihatkan sebuah karya yang tak biasa dalam Festival Kesenian Kunstrai (the Kunstrai art festival) di Amsterdam, Belanda, Minggu 3 Juni 2012. Orville, si 'kucing terbang'. Bart tak sendirian. Dia bersama rekannya Arjen Beltman, merakit kucing terbang yang dia beri nama 'Orvillecopter'.  Bart punya alasan kuat, mengapa dia membuat proyek seni tak biasa dengan menggunakan kucing. Orville, nama si kucing, adalah peliharaan kesayangannya.  Dan Orville mati dilindas mobil. Tak ingin binatang kesayangannya dikubur, lantas Bart memiliki ide tak biasanya itu. Ide itu dilakukan agar Bart tidak kehilangan dan terus bisa melihat si kucing itu.  Dengan dipasangi sejumlah peranti elektronik, bangkai kucing malang itu kini bisa terbang dengan dikendalikan remote kontrol. Setelah berhasil, kemudian Bart menamainya menjadi Orvillecopter. Pertama kalinya Orvillecopter ditampilkan pada festival tersebut.

Satpam Kucing

Gudang mainan di Southampton, Inggris mempercayakan seekor kucing sebagai tenaga keamanan baru, untuk menjaga barang-barangnya dari segala bentuk ancaman membahayakan. Dilansir Metro.co.uk, Gudang Bandai menjadi satu-satunya di dunia yang mempekerjakan satpam seekor kucing. Adalah kucing bengala bernama Millie yang dipilih mereka.

Alasannya, kucing ini memiliki kemampuan memanjat yang mengagumkan dan dengkuran yang keras. Sehingga dinilai mampu menjalankan tugasnya dengan baik. "Kami akan menghadapi lonjakan permintaan jelang Natal tahun ini. Dengan penujukkan Millie satpam kucing, mainan kami kini sangat terlindungi," kata juru bicara Bandai. 

Millie meneken kontrak dengan cap cakarnya, dan mendapat upah berupa pakan kucing dan ikan. Sementara pemilik Millie mengatakan kucingnya itu memiliki karakter tangguh dan tidak keberatan bekerja lembur. "Saya tidak kaget dia mendapatkan pekerjaan sebagai tenaga keamanan. Tentu mainan-mainan itu sangat beruntung mendapat penjaga dari seekor kucing yang tangguh," katanya.

Kucing Menjabat Walikota Talkeetna

Seekor kucing menyalahi takdirnya sebagai binatang peliharaan dengan menjabat menjadi walikota di sebuah kota kecil di Alaska. Sudah 15 tahun menduduki tampuk pimpinan, kucing bernama Stubbs ini tampaknya masih akan bertahan tanpa pesaing. Sebanyak 900 warga kota Talkeetna, Alaska, mengaku tidak masalah dipimpin oleh seorang kucing. Dalam video Reuters, warga justru mengaku senang Stubbs menjadi walikota. "Dia tidak menghakimi siapapun, dia mencintai semua orang," kata seorang warga.

"Dia tidak menaikkan pajak kami, tidak ada pajak penjualan di kota ini. Dia juga tidak mencampuri bisnis warga, dia jujur," kata warga lainnya, dilansir CNN. Stubbs pertama kali ditemukan saat masih kecil di sebuah kotak kardus, dibuang pemiliknya. Lauri Stec, manajer supermarket Nagley memungutnya. Banyak yang suka pada kucing tanpa ekor ini.  Pada hari pemilihan walikota, warga merasa tidak sreg dengan para kandidat manusia, sehingga mereka lebih memilih Stubbs. Dia kembali terpilih selama 15 tahun, tanpa pesaing lainnya. Talkeetna adalah distrik bersejarah sehingga posisi walikota lebih kepada simbol ketimbang fungsional. Inilah yang membuat warga merasa tidak keberatan.

Kucing Yang Paling Terkenal di Dunia

Choupette bukan sembarang kucing. Hewan piaraan Karl Lagerfeld ini memiliki tiga asisten pribadi, jet pribadi, iPad, buku harian, dan akun Twitter dengan 12.000 follower.  "Anda tahu, sesungguhnya saya tak merasa populer. Choupette yang justru sekarang terkenal. Dia menjadi kucing paling terkenal di dunia," kata desainer Rumah Mode Chanel itu, seperti dikutip guardian.co.uk. 

Hidup Choupette semanis namanya. Choupette --dalam bahasa Perancis artinya manis--, sehari-hari makan bersama Lagerfeld di meja makan. Tidur di atas bantal berkualitas tinggi. Setiap dua minggu, kucing ini juga memiliki jadwal check up ke dokter hewan. Ada tiga asisten pribadi yang bertugas memenuhi kebutuhan Choupette. Dengan sistem kerja shift, dayang-dayang ini tak hanya bertugas memberi makan dan mengajak bermain, tapi juga mencatat semua tindakan dan emosi dalam sebuah jurnal harian. 

Sembilan bulan terakhir, sudah ada 600 catatan harian mengenai keseharian Choupette. "24 Maret. Mengambil daging ayam dengan tangan, ditata di mangkok kristal. Choupette tidak mau makan. 17 April. Choupette harus membersihkan sedikit kotoran dari kakinya. Menggunakan syal Chanel." Daya pikat Choupette bukan mustahil menginspirasi Lagerfeld meluncurkan serangkaian koleksi Chanel teranyar. "Bulunya begitu indah, seperti powderpuff besar yang membuat orang-orang terpana," ujarnya.  Kisah Lagerfeld dan Choupette bermula sembilan bulan lalu. Saat model Baptiste Giaconi menitipkan Choupette di kediaman Lagerfeld. Merasa jatuh hati, Lagerfeld meminta Giaconi untuk tak mengambilnya lagi. Lagerfeld mengadopsi dan merawatnya.

Cats that pester for food could be suffering from psychological condition

According to a group of vets, it is a sign of a creature whose obsession with food has driven it to the edge of insanity. They claimed that cats that show too much eagerness to be fed could be suffering from the newly-diagnosed condition of “psychogenic abnormal feeding behaviour”. And the attention-seeking behaviour is a symptom called “excessive solicitation of interspecific interactions”.

According to the researchers, who set out their findings in the Journal of Veterinary Behaviour, other symptoms can include “food-related aggressiveness” — taking food from other cats’ bowls — and “context-specific excessive appetite” — jumping on the table to eat from the owner’s plate. One suggested treatment is to ban your cats from watching you eat. Gradually, they can be reintroduced at mealtimes, but should never be fed titbits from the table.

The authors of the report initially studied an eight-month-old Siamese called Otto that would jump on its owners as they prepared its meal and try to eat from the tin, as well as stealing food from another cat. The researchers could find no medical explanation for the behaviour. Eventually, they decided the cause was psychological, not physical. They improved the cat’s behaviour by feeding and stroking it only at certain times of day, and ignoring it at other times.

Paolo Mongillo, from the University of Padua, in Italy, who led the study, said: “Unless the cat is really obnoxious, most owners probably won’t complain.” But he added: “If you feed them from the table, just once in a while, the cat will think it is like a slot machine — if they always ask, every so often they will get what they want.” Mr Mongillo said that such “eating disorders” in animals could be stress-related, just as they sometimes were in humans.

Venus si Kucing 'Bermuka Dua'

Keistimewaan warna fisiknya membuat Venus terkenal. Kucing "bermuka dua" itu menjadi bintang baru di dunia maya. Ini alasan hewan itu disebut bermuka dua: wajahnya secara sempurna terbagi dua. Separo wajahnya berwarna hitam legam, sisi lainnya coklat kekuningan. Kucing tenar itu juga punya laman Facebook sendiri, yang menarik perhatian lebih dari 22.000 penggemar.   Pemiliknya yang luar biasa bangga menggambar kan Venus penuh kasih sayang, sebagai hewan peliharaan lembut dan sempurna, dengan nafsu makan luar biasa.  "Kecil-kecil, ia lebih memilih porsi raksasa makanan dari mangkuk anjing daripada makan makanan kucingnya," kata pemilik dalam akun Facebook Venus, seperti dimuat Daily Mail.

The following is a list of foods that cats should never eat !!

1. Onions, Garlic, & Related Root Vegetables

Onions contain a substance (N-propyl disulphide) which destroys red blood cells in the cat, causing a form of anemia called Heinz body anemia. Garlic contains a similar substance in a lesser amount.

2. Green Tomatoes, Green (raw Potatoes)

These foods are members of the Solanaceae family of plants, which includes the Deadly Nightshade, and contain a bitter, poisonous alkaloid called Glycoalkaloid Solanine, which can cause violent lower gastrointestinal symptoms. The leaves and stems are particularly toxic. (Tomatoes in pet foods are ripe, and should cause no concern because they appear in relatively small amounts).

Definition Nightshade vegetables: members of the solanaceae family of plants, include potatoes, peppers, eggplants and tomatoes. These plants contain alkaloids that have a potentially inflammatory effect on the body, and should probably be avoided by anyone suffering from arthritic or autoimmune conditions.

3. Chocolate

It's becoming more widely known that chocolate is very toxic to both cats and dogs. Theobromine is the offending substance here. Janet Tobiassen Crosby, D.V.M. has an excellent article on the symptoms, effects, and treatment of chocolate toxicity.

What makes chocolate toxic, anyway?
Chocolate is made from the fruit (beans) of the cacao tree. Theobromine, a component of chocolate, is a toxic compound in chocolate. Caffeine is also present in chocolate and a toxic component, but in much smaller amounts than Theobromine. Both Theobromine and Caffeine are members of a drug class called Methylxanines.

Theobromine and caffeine effects on the body:

• Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant
• Cardiovascular stimulant
• Increase blood pressure (mild)
• Nausea and vomiting

Why isn't chocolate toxic to humans?
Humans can break down and excrete Theobromine much more efficiently than dogs. The half life of Theobromine in the dog is long; approximately 17.5 hours.

Are some chocolates more toxic than others?
Yes. Unsweetened (baker's) chocolate contains 8-10 times the amount of Theobromine as milk chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate falls roughly in between the two for Theobromine content. White chocolate contains Theobromine, but in such small amounts that Theobromine poisoning is unlikely. Caffeine is present in chocolate, but less than Theobromine.

From The Merck Veterinary Manual, here are approximate Theobromine levels of different types of chocolate:

• Dry cocoa powder = 800 mg/oz
• Unsweetened (Baker's) chocolate = 450 mg/oz
• Cocoa bean mulch = 255 mg/oz
• semisweet chocolate and sweet dark chocolate is = 150-160 mg/oz
• Milk chocolate = 44-64 mg Theobromine per oz chocolate
• White chocolate contains an insignificant source of methylxanthines.

4. Grapes and Raisins

These foods' toxicity has mainly been found in dogs, in quantities of varying amounts. The ASPCA advises: "As there are still many unknowns with the toxic potential of grapes and raisins, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center advises not giving grapes or raisins to pets in any amount." That's good enough for me.

5. Milk

Although milk is not toxic to cats, it may have adverse effects. Simply put, adult cats fed a nutritious diet don't need milk, and many cats are lactose-intolerant, which means that the lactose in milk and milk products produces stomach upset, cramps, and gassiness. If your cat loves milk, and begs for it, a small amount of cream may be okay, two or three times a week. (The more fat in the milk, the less lactose.) Another compromise is CatSip, a product made from skim milk with an enzyme added that helps the digestion of lactose. Catsip is available in supermarkets such as Safeway, Albertson's and A&P, as well as pet products chains, such as PetSmart and Petco.

These are the most commonly seen "people foods" that are potentially harmful to cats. The bottom line is to feed your cat nutritious food developed with his needs in mind and choose treats designed for cats instead of table scraps.
